INSURANCE SPECIAL REPORT: RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN LOSSES AND VEHICLE DENSITY 1982-84 MODELS
This Highway Loss Data Institute study illustrates the influence of vehicle density (measured as number of registered cars per square mile) on insurance collision losses and on first-party medical losses in no-fault states. This report summarizes the frequency and severity of collision and injury claims for five categories of increasing vehicle density. Results, based on the collision experience of 1982 models and the injury experience of 1982-84 midels, are presented for passenger cars (small, midsize, and large), vans, small and standard pickups, and small and intermediate utility vehicles.
