TRANSPORTATION PLANNING APPLICATIONS: A COMPENDIUM OF PAPERS BASED ON A CONFERENCE HELD IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA IN APRIL 1987. FINAL REPORT

The National Conference on Transportation Planning Applications which was held in Orlando, Florida on April 20-24, 1987, was an opportunity for urban transportation planners to share experiences and to showcase new and effective applications of planning techniques. Important issues identified at the Conference were that: urban transportation planning is no longer solely long-term and regional; the age of the microcomputer has arrived bringing with it changes in economic planning; budget and funding constraints have limited planning agencies from obtaining large-scale regional data; the quality of demographic and economic forecasts; development of integrated analyses between planning and project development; presentation of analysis results to public officials; and quick response and default applications with little understanding of the appropriateness of the application. Much activity exists at the state and local level showing that new ideas are being adapted and implemented.
