COLD STARTING A NEAT METHANOL (M100) VEHICLE WITH LONG DURATION SPARK IGMNITION
A test program was devised at EPA's Motor Vehicle Emission Laboratory to evaluate the Nissan long duration spark ignition (LDSI) system on an M100 test vehicle to determine whether cold starting neat methanol at low ambient temperatures can be improved. Modifications were made to the vehicle's ignition system and stock cold start injectors were utilized. Successful cold starts were obtained down to 20 degrees F.
