TRENDS IN ALCOHOL-RELATED FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS, UNITED STATES: 1977-1984. SURVEILLANCE REPORT #1
From an epidemiologic perspective there is a need to identify, for alcohol-related traffic accidents, groups at greatest risk of death and changes in the risk of involvement over time, and to track these factors on a regular schedule. This surveillance report is an initial step in meeting this need. The major data source for this report is the Department of Transportation's Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS). The data in this report are organized into three sections under the topic headings: General trends and fatality rates; BAC testing and results; and Young drinking drivers. Fatality rates, frequencies and percentages are presented in graphic and tabular form.
