A SYSTEMS ANALYSIS PROCEDURE FOR ESTIMATING THE CAPACITY OF AN AIRPORT: SYSTEM DEFINITION, CAPACITY DEFINITION AND REVIEW OF AVAILABLE MODELS
This research effort which defines the airport system with the aid of a flow chart and reviews available models for analyzing airport capacity, provides an airport capacity estimation method with which balanced improvements to airside and landside components can be planned through the use of a systems approach rather than the current method of analyzing each component as an independent part of the airport-system. Airport capacity analysis requires a hierachical procedure in which subsystem interactions at the major interface components are considered first, followed by analysis of component interactions within each subsystem. Level of service concepts are used in order to include qualitative as well as quantitative measures of the service provided by the airport.
