STEDELIJKE VORMGEVING, VERKEERSINFRASTRUCTUUR EN VERKEERSONVEILIGHEID. EEN INTEGRALE STUDIE NAAR DE SAMENHANG TUSSEN DE RUIMTELIJKE ORDENING, HET VERKEER EN DE VEILIGHEID ERVAN

The main purpose of this research is to integrate the knowledge on traffic safety in urban areas. The purpose is twofold: (1) to get an overview of existing knowledge and insight on traffic safety in urban areas; and (2) to show in which areas there is a lack of knowledge and where further research is needed. After an introduction, Chapter II describes the traffic and transport systems. This provides a background against which problems of safety in urban areas can be discussed. A general description of this lack of safety is also presented. Chapter III expands upon this general description by discussing the lack of safety in specific types of urban areas. Chapter IV presents in principle the whole scale of solutions mentioned in the literature for the problems presented in Chapters II and III. Chapter V presents a summary of the report and the conclusions that can be drawn from it. Chapter VI presents recommendations for further research. (TRRL)
