HUMAN FACTORS IN ACCIDENTS ON THE A-28. PART I: GLOBAL ANALYSIS

MENSELIJKE FACTOREN BIJ ONGEVALLEN OP DE A-28. DEEL I: GLOBALE ANALYSE

On the basis of problems relating to accidents on the de punt-haren section of motorway 28, a global analysis of accidents was made over a seven-year period. Use was made of the department for the registration of traffic accidents (vor) methodology in this study. The snyder and knoblauch's accident model, and the lourens and van der molen's mistake analysis model are also described. These could be used to analyze accident data, but they focus in particular on the human factors in the chain of behaviour that leads to an accident. Using a number of examples, the analyses show that the methods by which accident data are currently collected in the Netherlands, as well as the type of data collected, contribute only partially to explaining the accidents in terms of human behaviour. The report concludes with four proposals for research which give particular emphasis to the human factors in the accident process. (TRRL)
