The aim of a cement concrete overlay applied to an existing surfacing is to prolong the lifetime of the existing pavement at a fairly low cost. This publication defines the overlay, discusses the selection between overlay and reconstruction of the pavement, the choice of pavements or which overlays are to be applied, the reason why cement concrete is highly adapted to this form of treatment, and the factors to be taken into account in the design of the overlay. /TRRL/
