CLINICAL APPROACH TO THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ALCOHOL AND WOMEN DRIVERS. WOMEN, ALCOHOL, DRUGS AND TRAFFIC. PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP SEPTEMBER 29-30, 1988, STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN
Using a method of clinical investigation involving an analysis of individual drivers' personal accounts, the mechanisms underlying women's risk-taking and attitudes to driving within the general framework of drinking and driving by women was ivestigated. The norms, attitudes and beliefs relating to drinking and driving within the social and psychological context in which these activities take place are analyzed. To support the arguments, the personal experiences of individuals and their symbolic representations of driving were drawn on. The question was asked: do men and women drink and drive for the same psychological and emotional reasons?
