AN INTERPRETATION OF SOME OBSERVED EFFECTS OF TEMPERATURE VARIATION ON SOIL BEHAVIOUR ---INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RHEOLOGY AND SOIL MECHANICS, 12-16 SEPTEMBER 1988, COVENTRY, UK

The main objective of this paper is to provide feasible explanations of the observed effects of stress level and temperature variations on the time-deformation behaviour of kaolin and uniform sand using a rheological equation which combines the rate process theory and the particulate mechanics approach. It is demonstrated that subject to the acceptance of some simplifying assumptions regarding the nature and structural arrangement of the particles in the tested soils, the proposed rheological equations can provide a plausible explanation of the observed behaviour.
