STRENGTH AND CREEP OF SWELLING CLAYS ---INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RHEOLOGY AND SOIL MECHANICS, 12-16 SEPTEMBER 1988, COVENTRY, UK

In order to check the possibility of expanding the generalized law of shearing creep (meschyan, 1976) over the swelling soils the present paper is devoted to consideration of the results regarding determination of shearing resistance, free swelling pressure and shearing creep of the swelling bentonite-and-sand mixture in different states of its compactness and humidity. Experimental investigations show that the shearing creep law mentioned above, may be applied to the soils under consideration. According to this law the simple shearing creep deformations of these soils, independently of the state of their compactness and humidity and their standard shearing resistance are practically similar at equal levels of the tangential stress.
