COMPATABILITY, SERVICEABILITY AND DESIGN FACTORS FOR REINFORCED SOIL WALLS ---PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON THEORY AND PRACTICE OF EARTH REINFORCEMENT, FUKUOKA, KYUSHU, JAPAN, 5-7 OCTOBER 1988

An approach to the design of reinforced soil walls is summarised. By considering the compatibility of strain in reinforced soil, the approach allows the design forces and strains in the soil and the reinforcement to be estimated, and the expected deformation of the reinforced soil wall to be calculated. Non-dimensional charts are presented for the calculation of outward movements at the wall face both at the end of construction and due to creep of the reinforcement material.(a) for the covering abstract of the symposium see IRRD 818063.
