RCC PAVEMENTS IN SPAIN. PROCEEDINGS, 4TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONCRETE PAVEMENT DESIGN AND REHABILITATION, PURDUE UNIVERSITY, APRIL 18-20, 1989

This paper deals with the design, construction and performance of roller compacted concrete (RCC) pavements in Spain. The first known applications of RCC pavements in Spain took place around 1970. They were mainly pavements subjected to light traffic, located on housing developments, urban streets and rural roads. A broad experience with RCC pavements has also been gained since 1984 in main highways and freeways, including new roads, strengthening stretches, rehabilitation and widening schemes. From the experience acquired conclusions have been reached regarding different aspects of this technology: design standards, materials, mix manufacture, construction and control procedures during the work. In the paper those aspects of the design, construction and performance of RCC pavements that concern the Spanish experience are described.
