ASSESSMENT AND STRENGTHENING OF BRIDGES IN ALBERTA
The province of Alberta has carried out a program of bridge strengthening for a number of years, to increase their useful life and provide improved levels of service on the provincial highway network. The need for strengthening has arisen for the most part from a series of increases in legal truck loadings in the province. This paper provides an overview of some of the work that has been done with steel and precast concrete bridges and then describes in greater detail some of the more recent work with cast-in-place concrete t-girder bridges. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 807201.
