NEW BASIS FOR EARTHWORK SPECIFICATION FOR CLAY SOIL
A new basis for creating specifications for earthwork with greater reliability and confidence is described. A flow chart guides the procedures in each case. The procedure assists the enginer in 2 ways: where borrow is identified in advance of construction, the procedures permit the engineer to prepare the compaction specification and be assured that the earthwork, in-service, will exhibit the desired selected behavior parameter magnitudes; where borrow is not idenitified prior to construction, the procedures permit the engineer to predict the behavior parameter magnitudes that will be exhibited by the compacted earth, using inspection test results without other extensive testing.
