WALKWAY TO BE HUNG BELOW HIGHWAY SPANS
A pedestrian footbridge is being constructed 40 feet beneath a segmental concrete bridge in Richmond, Virginia. The aesthetic appeal of the structure will be heightened by the 285-ft spans that will rise gently to midspan to mimic the arched soffit of the highway bridge. Zinc-coated steel suspender cables will splay out from the 8-ft-wide walkway to anchorages on the webs of the main bridge's twin segments. Details of the design of the bridge are briefly summarized.
