STATUS REPORT ON LARGE-TRUCK SAFETY
Recent publicity on large-truck accidents gives a clear message: the public feels there is a real truck safety problem in the United States. It leads one to ask whether these accidents, resulting traffic jams, and media interest in truck safety indicate increases in the number of large-truck related accidents, and to ask what is the real record of large-truck safety in the United States and what can be done to make improvements. This article examines these issues, points out significant trends, and makes some suggestions for improvement.
