COLD-RECYCLED ASPHALT STREETS GET GOOD GRADES
Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh, has a $600,000 road maintenance program for 1989. About 1.5 mi. (24,000 cu yd) of two-lane residential streets will be cold recycled in-place, 3.5 in. deep, and finished with a 1.5-in. overlay. Another 21.5 mi. of the 105 mi. of municipal streets in Bethel Park will get maintenance ranging from crack sealing to removal and replacement of the old asphalt pavement. A contractor-modified paving train is milling, recycling and repaving roads in place on 10 percent grades. Details of the cold recycling are included in this article.
