PLACES OF ACCIDENTS, PROFILES OF INJURED AND OF JOURNEYS

LIEUX DES ACCIDENTS, PROFILS DES ACCIDENTES ET DES DEPLACEMENTS

The analysis of accidents leads to the question of the use of the road network by those involved, insofar as certain uses or journeys can give rise to behavior which is specific to and may explain malfunctions. Taking this dimension into consideration would seem to provide a more promising way of better defining road safety measures. To study this link between the use of space and the places where accidents occur, the present work focuses on the data provided by the In-depth Accident Study performed by INRETS in Salon-de-Provence. It had recourse to a factor analysis and a hierarchical clustering. The results show 3 sectors in which accidents occur which differ depending on those involved and their journeys: the urban area of Salon-de-Provence, roads with little traffic in the open country, large road infrastructure in the open country (trunk roads and motorways).
