CONSISTENCY AND WORKABILITY OF FLOWING CONCRETE

The use of a K-slump tester to measure the consistency and workability of fresh concrete made with and without superplasticizer is reported. It was found that the tester was capable of measuring both properties in a satisfactory manner. Tests were performed on 6 mixes using Type I portland cement, with certain chemical and physical characteristics. The results of the tests are discussed. It is noted that the tester can be used to monitor the changes in consistency and workability with time. It is expected that the tester, which is simple and can be mastered by technicians, will soon replace the slump cone.
