REFURBISHING ONE OPTION FOR DAMAGED TRAFFIC SIGNS
It is pointed out that refurbishing may reduce costs of replacing outdated, damaged traffic control signs, and how the costly aluminum can be reused many times, saving cost of new signs. The benefits of refurbishing are listed and discussed. However, not all signs can be salvaged, and criteria for promising candidates are listed. These include those with bends or dimples, scratches or nicks, graffiti or other vandalism, dull reflective sheeting or lettering, and obsolete legend. Signs that should not be refurbished are listed. The steps to restore a sign are described.
