IN SITU AND LABORATORY STRESS-STRAIN RELATIONSHIP. DISCUSSION
This is a discussion of the above paper which was published in this journal Volume 38, No 1. The discusser, K.S. Li of Hong Kong notes that the authors' results indicate a strong dfference between the in situ and laboratory EOP epsilon-sigma curves. However, the discusser points out the importance of addressing two questions before such conclusions can be drawn. He notes that the estimation of the in situ strain using EOP stress-strain of a smaple taken near the center of the sublayer is subject to a very large uncertainty. The discusser, D.J. Naylor notes that the increase of pore pressure with time will, in the case of embankments, usually be associated with a reduction in safety factor. The discussions are followed by a reply by the authors.
