A LOOK AT WHAT SOME STATES ARE DOING. ARIZONA, UTAH PLAN 'SUPER PORT'
The first U.S. 2-state, combined operation commercial port-of-entry, or Super Port is being planned near St George, Utah and the Arizona border. The cost of the $6 million venture will be split between the Arizona Department of Transportation, the Utah Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Department of Transportation. The port is now handling about 800,000 trucks/year and this is expected to increase by 15%. The new port will have advanced technologies for weighing trucks in motion at speeds up to 30 miles hour. Computerized scanning of cab cards, etc., will allow 80% of trucks to pass through without stopping.
