THE USE OF POLYMER CONCRETE FOR BRIDGE DECK REPAIRS ON THE MAJOR DEEGAN EXPRESSWAY
The practicality of using polymer concrete to repair holes in bridge decks has been demonstrated by the repair of two large holes in the Third and Lincoln Avenues Viaduct of the Major Deegan Expressway in New York City. All of the work was confined to the non-rush hour (10AM-3PM) part of the day and at least one lane of traffic was maintained on the roadway at all times. The material cost of polymer concrete was $1400 or $260-cu yd. This represented 4% of the total repair cost and indicates that the material cost is insignificant when repairs on major arterial highways are performed. The use of polymer concrete appears cost effective.
