TESTS VALIDATE PIPELINE SLEEVE REPAIR TECHNIQUE

The sleeve-on-sleeve pipeline repair technique is described in this paper. This technique is a viable, acceptable means of repairing sleeves and preventing fluid leakage resulting from fracture of cracked fillet welds at the ends of an existing single-layer sleeve. It was conceived by Interprovincial Pipe Line Co. as a means of repair for situations in which one or both of the circumferential fillet welds at the ends of an initial repair sleeve may need to be reinforced. Results of two experiments described in this paper indicate that the sleeve-on-sleeve repair technique can be used without adversely affecting the integrity of a pipeline.
