VEHICLE PERFORMANCE - CORRELATING THE VARIABLES

This paper describes the correvit vehicle performance measurement system, marketed by leitz, whose capabilities have recently been increased massively due to several major refinements and additions. In particular, more complex processor information can now be processed by the computer facilities mounted in the test vehicle itself. The basis of the system is a central data recording or recording/processing unit, carried on the vehicle and designed to suit the on-board testing environment. The system is highly modular, so that it can be tailored to the specific needs of each user; in particular, the central data logging units eep-2, eep-3, and eep-4 are modular, allowing a very large number of possible combinations to be constructed from them. Several sensor systems, allied to the central processing units, have been developed to measure many performance variables, either directly or by correlating different inputs. The principal variables measured are: acceleration, longitudinal velocity and distance, transverse movement, engine speed, and ride height; other aspects of performance can be monitored, including internal noise, fuel consumption, and braking performance. All the sensors are easy to install. The correvit system can be used to provide data related to time, distance, or speed; test results can be output numerically on a printer, linked to the system, and graphically on an external plotter.
