RUTTING OF ASPHALT PAVEMENTS IN SASKATCHEWAN : MIX DESIGN EVALUATION ---PROCEEDINGS OF THE THIRTY-SECOND ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE CANADIAN TECHNICAL ASPHALT ASSOCIATION

A formal investigation was conducted in Saskatchewan to determine the correlation between asphalt mix design and pavement rutting performance. A wide cross section of test sites were chosen for the study on the basis of observed rutting. Asphalt concrete properties were quantified for design, post-construction and present conditions. Regression analysis indicated that the rate of rutting correlated well with air voids, voids filled, asphalt content and hveem stability. The report concludes that threshold values for these properties be carefully monitored during field testing and mix design.
