MODELS AND METHODOLOGIES IN THE ANALYSIS OF REGULATION EFFECTS IN AIRLINE MARKETS

In this survey, we present a detailed review of some methodologies used in recent economic studies on the effects of regulation changes in airline passengers transportation. Four topics will be reviewed. Each of them involves different methodologies. The first topic concerns the effects of regulatory changes on fares and, consequently, on quality of services and route structures. The other topics are the effects of regulation on stock returns of transportation companies, the effects of regulation on productivity and costs of the companies and the identification of the beneficiaries of regulation.
