TRAINING FOR LEADERSHIP
The leadership role that transportation professionals can aspire to is discussed, as well as the training and expertise necessary for such a role. Leadership in transportation to solve local transportation problems requires a strong public image and political clout. Participation in committees, task forces, and other volunteer efforts will give the opportunity to develop in this area. A graduate program in business or public administration can help one in acuquiring the necessary skills: engineering/technical skills; wide range of traffic and transportation skills; communication; organization; interpersonal skills; marketing; common-sense solutions to daily problems; public administration; and ethics.
