E' AND ITS VARIATION WITH DEPTH. DISCUSSION
This is a discussion of a paper of this title by J.D. Hartley and J.M. Duncan published in Volume 113, No. 5 (September 1987) of this journal. The discusser questions the proof provided by the model study presented in the paper. The model assumption that soil-pipe interaction is symmetric about the horizontal datum where rigid supports are assumed is questioned. Revision of the analytical model would provide a better estimate of how the modulus of soil reaction varies with depth.
