SOIL SUPPORTS SHOT INTO UNSTABLE GROUND
French technology is being used in the United States to stabilize soil embankments without prior excavation or drilling. The process, called jet nailing, makes it possible to build retaining walls quickly: reinforcing steel is jetted into the ground under pressure of high-strength grout. Unlike soil nailing, there is no need to drill a deep hole before installing the rebar. The technique is being used in the construction of a multistory parking garage in Ogden, Utah. Details of the construction process are briefly summarized.
