BAR CODE SYSTEMS BENEFIT TRANSIT AGENCIES
Bar codes are viewed as transit agencies' future. They are the lined codes which usually appear on the back of supermarket products which allow the computer to automatically identify a product. These codes could be used in the transit industry to keep track of inventory, avoid costly errors, speed parts entry and distribution, and save both time needed to refuel buses and money. Federally-funded transit projects which require close tracking and inventory are cited as an excellent candidates for bar coding.
