REST AREA WASTEWATER TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL
The continued development of the interstate highway rest areas has emphasized the need for improved water supply and wastewater treatment systems. An analysis of the rest area usage provided information regarding the quantity and quality of wastewater as well as the variation in wastewater flow. This information has been used to evaluate potential wastewater treatment systems for rest areas. Process stability under widely fluctuating loadings, simplicity of operation and aesthetic qualities were the major criteria used to evaluate the systems. A summary of the reports on Phase 1 and 2 of this project is presented.
