EUROPEAN DATA BANKS ON REGULATING THE TRANSPORT OF DANGEROUS GOODS
The countries in which data banks on dangerous goods were studied are as follows: Belgium, Denmark, France, The Netherlands, The Federal Republic of Germany, The United Kingdom, and Sweden. The data banks studied and compared are as follows: BIG (Belgium); KEMINFO (Denmark); SIGMAD (France); DBVLG (Netherlands); GEFAHRGUT (Germany): and EXCIS (U.K.). The study evaluated the performance of different systems in relation to the transport of dangerous goods excluding radioactive materials, and how they meet user needs. It was found that there was little uniformity regarding the transport of such materials, targeted users were not the same, and their was little uniformity in the classification of materials. Their was little uniformity governing the regulation of transport of dangerous goods. Stricter controls on the most dangerous goods, and more flexible controls on the less dangerous goods is desirable.
