QUALITY UNDERGRADUATE ENGINEERING EDUCATION - A CRITICAL PERSPECTIVE
This paper considers a number of topics that contribute to the quality of undergraduate education programs, and thereby attempts to reach a consistent definition of quality in such education. The historical background to the current educational scene is described, the current situation is examined, and such aspects as laboratory instruction, cooperative programs, specialization, general education, and intellectual development are considered. Testing and research are discussed. Recommendations are presented that will help in meeting the challenge of the future.
