PROTOTYPE ROBOTICS IN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
This is a summary of the latest results in the application of automation and robotics in the construction industry by a Japanese contractor. The following are described: fireproofing spray robot, steel-beam positioning manipulator, radio-control autorelease clamp, ceiling-panel positioning robot, multipurpose traveling vehicle for concrete slab finishing, concrete-floor finishing robot, wallfinishing robot, spray-coating robot, automatic silo-lining system, and activated concrete cutting robot. This paper discusses how robots fit into present construction methods, how construction techniques may be adapted to accommodate robots, and how robots may be used in new fields of construction such as activated concrete cutting.
