RESIN INJECTION REBONDS BRIDGE DECK
The overlay on a bridge deck on State Route 46 over the Des Moines river was found to be partially delaminated. The Iowa Department of Transportation determined that it was feasible to repair such delaminations using resin injection, finding that in most instances an injection repair will be stronger than the concrete itself. This article describes the repair of the Route 46 bridge deck by the W.G. Jacques Company, Des Moines. The project was completed during August and September, 1988. The resin chosen was a 100 percent solids, moisture tolerant, low-viscosity epoxy.
