STATION NETWORKING HALVES DESIGN TIME
A Louisiana civil engineering firm met developer's schedule for roadway design with networked workstations and CADD (computer aided design and drafting). It is described how a new CAD system was installed at the engineering firm with a full graphic editor for representing designs on the screen, and enhance communications between engineers via networking. Software was needed that could create the basic outline of a project's geometry, from which all other plans could be distilled. This would enable an engineer to produce the design graphically and then pass it down to the drafters for detailing. These and other characteristics of the software and its capabilities are described.
