STRATEGIC PLANNING TOOL FOR GPS SURVEYS
A simple GDOP (geometric dilution of precision)-type number that would capture the relative merit of different satellite selection and tracking strategies is most desirable. The single most important factor determining accuracy, whether or not whole cycle ambiguities can be resolved, is not reflected in such a number. Magnavox has developed a "Differnential" GDOP as a function of these parameters. This paper describes a method and rationale for "Differential GDOP" computations. A practical example is used to illustrate its benefits in generating a data collection strategy. Important conclusions reached in using the DGDOP are presented.
