EVALUATION OF DEEP PUMPING TESTS
The development of an interactive microcomputer program that simulates the behavior of a system of horizontal aquifers with pumping and recovery at a single well has been previously described by the authors (1987). By comparing screen plots of measured results with model predictions, the engineer can successively modify the assumed flow properties and aquifer geometry to rapidly establish a plausible set of properties and boundaries that represents the field conditions. In this paper, it is described how the interactive system is used to determine the properties of strata from pumping and recovery tests. The analytical background to the problem is described. The paper describes how various factors, such as the presence of a recharging boundary in the aquifer, affect the observed result of the pumping tests and how these effects are simulated by the program. The results of some recent deep tests and their interpretations are presented.
