APPLICABILITY OF EXISTING EMERGENCY RADIO BEACONS IN A MARINE ENVIRONMENT
This report documents the first phase in the development of Emergency Radio Beacons (ERBs) for the marine environment. This first phase consisted of testing and analyzing existing Radio Beacons in order to propare performance specifications for ERBs and associated DF/Homers. This study answered the questions: Are existing Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELTs) applicable in a marine environment. If they are not applicable what changes are required. Are there any technical limitations. What type of DF/Homing equipment should be used. Appendices A and B contain the initial performance specifications for the ERBs and DF/Homers. (Author)
