PIKEVILLE, KENTUCKY. AN INVESTIGATORY REPORT
The tracks of the C&O Railroad pass through the heart of downtown Pikeville, Kentucky. An investigation was made in two previous studies of the feasibility of moving these tracks. The first, in 1963, found the moving of the tracks to be desirable and feasible. The second study, in 1968, again documented the project as desirable and feasible. The project discussed in this report was contracted in March, 1969 and called for data acquisition and analysis, along with the development of recommendations. It also called for detailed cost estimates, more detailed and exact topographic mapping if necessary, meetings of the affected agencies, and the providing of other services as requested by the Coordinator. This report is basically descriptive of the activities and results of efforts to get the project into execution. It reports the background, description of the project, the preliminary cost estimates in some detail, the specifics of interagency cooperation necessary to fund the project and the results of the geological investigations.
