GEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION OF CONSTRUCTION SITES

RECONNAISSANCE GEOLOGIQUE DU CHANTIER DE CONSTRUCTION

The objective of this book is to give a most comprehensive set of data on the use of geological techniques for the investigation of foundations. Attention is drawn to the need for conducting detailed geological studies of the natural terrain, which can be used as a basis for the selection of the geophysical method best adapted to solve a given problem. Geophysical techniques enable a preliminary in-depth investigation. This is followed by exploratory boring in shafts or trenches. The various stages of this working method are outlined in detail; large-scale geological and seismic geological map of the area of a site, electrical exploration methods and operation of present boring rigs. Details are also given of the geological study of soil samples collected in-situ; this study complements standard laboratory tests and is particularly necessary in the case of weathered rocks. /TRRL/
