SAFEGUARDS INFORMATION FOR THE N.S. SAVANNAH REACTOR FUEL MADE BY GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY
The principal components of the reactor are the core, the 21 boron-steel control rods, the electrohydraulic rod drives, the reactor pressure vessel, and the primary water loops containing the heat-exchanger steam generators, electric pumps, and a pressurizer system to suppress load-change effects. The reactor is operated either by manual controls, or, in the power range, by an automatic control system which moves up to five control rods in or out in response to steam demand. A series-parallel safety circuit with numerous pressure, temperature, liquid level, neutron flux, and pump failure monitors will cause either fast-electric or hydraulic-scram insertion of the control rods to shut down the reactor and avert damage.
