POLICE PROPAGANDA ON WORN TYRES. RESULTS OF AN EXPERIMENT
POLIZEI-AKTION "ABGEFAHRENE REIFEN". ERGEBNISSE EINES EXPERIMENTS
The object of this study is to determine the effect of traffic safety propaganda on the behaviour of drivers. A comparison was made between an experimental town in which police tyre propaganda was put out, and a control town in which there was no such propaganda. Three individual studies were carried out, each designed to answer a specific question: 1 - it was found that about a quarter of the random sample were affected by the tyre publicity; this magnitude may be regarded as a coarse estimate of the positive effect of the propaganda; 2 - interviews carried out with the aid of a structured questionnaire and subsequently evaluated showed the characteristicts of those people unaffected by the propaganda; 3 - technical vehicle inspection showed that cars driven with worn tyres are also in a bad state in other respects. /TRRL/
