HIGHWAY ELEVEN

In May, 1973, the Clemson Architectural Foundation and the South Carolina Appalachian Council of Governments began discussing the possibility of the production of a design study for South Carolina Scenic Highway 11. A contract with the South Carolina Appalachian Council of Governments was mutually agreed upon and the Clemson Architectural Foundation agreed to produce a viable plan for the highway. This report is the result of that contract. The Clemson University College of Architecture provided a team of 23 people to accomplish the task. The problem was approached primarily as a learning experience. The task addressed was that of providing ideas and physical design suggestions which would expand the scenic potential of South Carolina Highway 11. A team visited each of seven designated sites. Data were collected, site analysis was accomplished using the grid square approach and prototypes were programmed and designed.
