EXPERIMENTAL FEATURES IN HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION - PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AND PROJECT SUMMARIES
This report was produced with two objectives in mind. The first was to encourage the use of innovative ideas in highway construction in Alaska. The second was to bring the results of current and completed experimental work to a wider audience. Chapters 1-3 address the first of these objectives. Chapter 1 is a brief introduction to the Federal Highway Administration's "Experimental Features in Highway Construction" program. Chapter 2 describes the three categories of projects which are included in the program. It also describes the way in which each type is set up and conducted. Chapter 3 contains guidelines for writing work plans and reports for Category 2 projects (which are the most common type). It is hoped that these chapters will help those who have innovative ideas turn them into reality. Chapter 4 gives a brief description of all active experimental feature projects in Alaska. Chapter 5 does the same for completed projects.
