MAN-MACHINE STUDIES-PROGRESS REPORT-UC-DSE/34(1988) TO THE DEFENCE SCIENTIFIC ESTABLISHMENT
The 34th report contains one contribution: The Q'Nial Travel Consultant. The expert system described in the report operates in the domain of the Travel Consultant. That is to say, the system is able to plan journeys for the user, or for a client of the user, taking into account real-world rules and conditions. The language used for the development of the system was Q'Nial (Queens Nested Interactive Array Language), a language still under development at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The purpose of using Q'Nial was twofold: to gain literacy in a new programming language and, more importantly, to assess the suitability of Q'Nial for future studies at the University of Canterbury. Included in the report is the source code, carefully commented throughout, as well as both a technical discussion of the project and an outline of the development of the system.
