WHAT DOES A CYCLIST THINK, WHAT CAN HE DO, WHAT DOES HE DO
WAT DENKT DE FIETSER, WAT KAN DE FIETSER, WAT DOET DE FIETSER
In order to improve the relatively hazardous position of young cyclists a study was undertaken regarding the conditions education programmes have to fulfill in order to help reduce cyclists' accident rate. A major issue is the relation between the abilities of cyclists in different age groups, their knowledge of traffic rules and regulations, their attitude towards traffic safety and their actual traffic behaviour as a resultant of these factors. Cyclists were studied by unobtrusive observation of their behaviour using a following observation technique, a questionnaire survey regarding their knowledge and attitudes, and finally, an ability test carried out at a traffic training circuit.(a)
