LOCAL INFLUENCING OF SPEED. GREAT POSSIBILITIES FOR TRAFFIC SAFETY?
PLAATSELIJKE SNELHEIDSBEINVLOEDING. GROTE MOGELIJKHEDEN VOOR DE VERKEERSVEILIGHEID?
The average speed of traffic can be decreased significantly by means of traffic signs and indications, if these are applied in the right place and manner and under the right circumstances. Therefore an experiment was set up near a school in the city of 's gravenhage. The efficiency of different configurations of traffic signs and indications were measured. All showed a decrease in traffic speed, however fixed traffic signs showed a small effect. Matrix signs have a better effect. To translate the decrease of speed as found in the experiment into terms of traffic safety, different mathematical models are given. This study is a covering report of the whole experiment. For data acquisition and processing and analysis of the results see IRRD 8811sw057e.
